Diffused Polycarbonate Material Solves Glare and Hotspot Issues for LED Panel Lights

Demand for commercial and residential LED panel lights and ceiling lamps keeps rising. Lighting OEMs are facing a common challenge: raw LED point sources create harsh glare and visible hotspots, hurting lighting comfort. Modified diffused polycarbonate has become a preferred optical solution for indoor LED lighting components.

Standard clear PC features high light transmission but cannot scatter point light. PMMA acrylic offers good light diffusion but lacks impact resistance and heat resistance. Modified diffused PC blends optical diffuser additives inside resin matrix. It converts sharp LED point light into soft uniform surface light. It maintains 70~90% light transmittance with high haze to hide LED chip hotspots.

Diffused PC inherits polycarbonate’s excellent impact resistance and heat resistance. Its heat deflection temperature reaches 125°C, resisting yellowing under long-term LED operating temperature. The resin has good melt flow for injection molding complex curved lampshades and flat diffuser sheets, widely used in downlights, panel lights and ceiling lights, complying with RoHS requirements.

For lighting OEM manufacturers, selecting proper grades of diffused PC reduces extra optical design cost and cuts breakage rate during shipment. As plastic resin supplier, we supply different haze & transmittance grades of diffused PC and provide samples for lighting manufacturers’ optical testing.

Indoor lighting buyers will keep raising requirements for eye-friendly uniform illumination. The adoption rate of diffused polycarbonate in indoor LED fixtures will keep expanding in the coming years.
