Thermally Conductive Polycarbonate Replaces Aluminum Heat Sinks for Industrial LED High Bay Lights

For high-power LED high bay lights deployed in warehouses, factories and large supermarkets, thermal performance directly determines fixture lifespan. Die-cast aluminum heat sinks have dominated the market for years, yet aluminum parts are heavy and require multiple CNC machining steps, pushing up mold and production cost. Modified thermally conductive polycarbonate offers a lightweight alternative for industrial LED high bay lights.

Thermally conductive PC is filled with thermal conductive fillers. It combines heat dissipation and electrical insulation without extra insulating gaskets. Compared with aluminum heat sinks, thermally conductive PC cuts weight by 40~50%. It supports one-piece injection molding, reduces assembly steps, shortens production lead time and lowers total manufacturing cost.

This material reaches UL94 V0 flame retardant rating with high heat resistance and stable dimension. It fits high-power high bay lights, mining lamps and stadium LED lighting thermal housings. Thermally conductive PC can form complex geometries and thin-wall integrated components which are difficult for aluminum die casting, giving lighting designers more flexibility.

Industrial lighting OEMs need to carry out thermal simulation testing based on LED wattage and cavity temperature before replacing aluminum with thermally conductive PC. As plastic resin trader, we supply PC grades with different thermal conductivity values and provide data sheets for sampling and thermal testing.

As manufacturers pursue cost reduction, replacing metal heat sinks with thermally conductive plastics will become a key material trend for high-power industrial LED lighting.
